Americans for the Arts, one of the nation’s leading arts and arts education advocacy groups, held their awards ceremony last night, October 21st, 2013. Among the award recipients were John and Mary Pappajohn, both trustees of the Des Moines Center for the Arts and benefactors of the Pappajohn Sculpture Park.
The 4.4 acre green space is located in an urban grid and serves as the primary entrance to downtown Des Moines. The grounds are home to 27 original sculptures from world-renowned artists, such as Barry Flanagan, Louise Bourgeois, Willem de Kooning, and Ellsworth Kelly, that patrons can enjoy for no cost. Cell phone tours are also provided for free and offer visitors a chance to learn more about the art and artist.
You can learn more about the Pappajohn Sculpture Park by visiting the Des Moines Art Center website.
